Wicked Weed's Wicked Green Initiative

Wicked Weed, a brewery based out of Asheville, North Carolina, strives to meet profound sustainability goals and to set green standards for the rest of the industry to follow. Each month, Wicked Weed’s Sustainability Committee known as the Green Freaks meet to review the company’s sustainability data such as water usage and waste diversion rates. This allows the company to continuously improve their sustainability efforts and ensure they are making appropriate strides toward reaching their goals. In 2021, Wicked Weed released an impact report with some of the following metrics:

  • 98.4% of overall waste from brewery production facilities was diverted from the landfill to be reused, recycled, or composted.
  • Carbon emission offsets were purchased for all 26 sales vehicles and local delivery trucks.
  • 100% of electricity used to brew, package, and ship beers is offset by renewable energy projects.

In light of their 2022 sustainability goals, Wicked Weed and CIRT have paired to solve wicked problems. Specifically solid waste management problems. The current system of recovery is complex and decentralized and recycling communication to consumers and companies is archaic. The chasing arrows symbol, originally intended to communicate manufacturer resin codes, has become heavily relied upon and exceedingly misleading for both companies and consumers. The dated and flawed chasing arrows symbol is in need of a modern and dynamic replacement.  A replacement CIRT can provide. CIRT intends to promote circularity by communicating accurate recyclability of products and packaging. CIRT has filled the sustainability software void by providing product-specific, location based materials recovery information, on demand.

On World Environment Day, Wicked Weed’s Digital footprint launched allowing their customers to access dynamic recycling information while Wicked Weed receives visibility into consumer behavior. With CIRT, Wicked Weed has the potential to provide location-specific recycling information to over 63 million people, engage with and educate their consumers on how to recycle over 1.5 million lbs of their packaging, and contribute to offsetting 11 million lbs of CO2e2. With CIRT’s B2B platform, Wicked Weed has the ability to exceed their sustainability goals and pave the way for other AB InBev brands to follow. From beer to brands to big box and beyond, CIRT is the one stop shop for all things recycling and recovery.
